April fools day was only a few days ago but it seems some are still in the mood for jokes, this time using big names, Strive Masiyiwa and Mutumwa Mawere.
A media invitation is doing the rounds informing journalists of a press conference at which business mogul Masiyiwa is to launch a new political party, United Democratic Movement (UDM).The press conference is said to have been called for by South African based businessman Mutumwa Mawere, it reads in part, ” Agenda: Notifying the nation of the coming in of business mogul Strive Masiyiwa into the country’s politics as president of United Movement for Democracy Party. Speakers: UMD Party Secretary General, Aaron Muzungu and;: Mutumwa Mawere.”

Mawere said another journalist had also sent him the same circular. The press briefing is to be held in Harare while both Masiyiwa and Mawere are still based out of the country. However, ZimEye is also informed that the Media Centre has been booked for such an event.
The prominent businessman Masiyiwa last year poured cold water on claims that he would lead a coalition of opposition parties to challenge President Robert Mugabe in this year’s elections, this was before the later was ousted.
