His followers say people should not rejoice as Bushiri’s arrest is part of God’s plan. It seems ECG church leader Shepherd Bushiri knew he would one day be behind bars, if a video of one of his sermons is anything to go by.
In a video that has been circulating on social media, Bushiri says he’s waiting for the day of his imprisonment as other prophets before him were also imprisoned.
He says: “You’ll be opposed, you’ll be jailed. They’ll take you to prison and I’m waiting for that day. And He [God] said you’ll move from prison to prison to prison for they did this to other prophets before you and other apostles before you. Even others were stoned to death, but He [God] said to me: ‘You’re not doing this on your own, that you shall receive a reward. We’ll lift you up, we’ll bless you, we’ll increase you and we’ll prosper you.”
His Facebook page shared with the public that armed Hawks members “stormed” the Sparkling Waters Hotel in Rustenburg this morning and “took” the charismatic prophet and his wife, Mary, in handcuffs.
Bushiri was charged with fraud and money laundering, said the Facebook post.
Prophet Shepherd Bushiri Says He Is Waiting For His Arrest In Past Sermon |
“We have repeatedly learnt from different media houses that we were under investigation.
“He has been detained and is being questioned by the HAWKS in Silverton, Pretoria.”
In another update, the church said the couple were doing “just fine” and were even praying for the church.
Church directors would address congregants live on the church’s channel tonight.
His fellow prophet, Uebert Angel, took to social media to criticise Bushiri’s arrest, saying it seemed Africa specialised in arresting black people instead of dealing with poverty.

The prophet has been trending in South Africa since news of his arrest broke, with most people on social media rejoicing, while some of his followers were defending him.
