Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi has spoken out about how the coronavirus has affected her reign
Chatting to SA media personality, Somizi via Instagram Live feed, Zozi claimed the global pandemic had thrown a spanner in the works of her year-long reign as well as the 2020 pageant crowning.
“We actually don’t know what will happen yet with the crowning [of the new winner] so we’re all still waiting and crossing fingers,” she said.
Somizi jokingly claimed coronavirus had ‘robbed’ her and that Miss Universe should compensate her, to which Zozi added with a laugh: “I guess we’ll talk to Miss Universe…we must draft them an email.”
The natural beauty told Newsroom Afrika earlier this week that her official duties – which entail a lot of travelling – had been put on hold amid lockdown. However, she was using the time to engage with the public as well as her various charities via her social media platform.
“I am still able to reach the people I want to through my social media…and we actually started the #UniverseUnited campaign….if you are stuck in an apartment, then let us do something to reach out to people while we’re all sitting at home.”
On the topic of Miss Universe possibly extending her reign, she replied; “If my reign is extended, I don’t know how long it will be extended for…the answer is I don’t know.”
She also revealed how being stuck in her apartment all day had taken a toll on her
“I miss people and I’m such a hugger and I love touching people, which is something I can’t do now… but I’m coping….
“I struggled just like everyone else but I tried to deal with what’s happened.”
Zozi also spoke to Somizi about pride month and about the achievements and struggles the star had to fight in his life.
The pair discussed Somizi’s wedding, his role in the iconic film Sarafina as well as the discrimination he faced as a black gay man.
