Female dancehall chanter, Lady Squanda was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) in connection with a robbery case in Zengeza.
The chanter whose real name is Sandra Gazi, is said to have surrendered herself to the police yesterday, after fleeing from her house where the suspected robbers took refuge on Monday.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest to Hmetro, and said some of the loot was discovered at Lady Squanda’s house.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a robbery case involving four men and a woman which took place in Zengeza on Monday night,”
“The five are Denzel Chiwenga, Rodrick Gwasira believed to be an ex-police officer, Zacharia Magaya, Sandra Gazi and Tichaona Chitova suspected to have robbed US$20, a cellphone and a laptop belonging to the complainant.
The crew is said to have pounced on a Toyota Wish driver who had stopped to pick two hitchhikers and sprayed him with pepper spray and took his cellphone, US$20 and a laptop.
Lady Squanda and her gang is said to have assaulted the driver.
He lodged a police report against them and a follow up was made and the suspects were found at Lady Squanda’s house.
One of the robbers attacked the arresting officers and Lady Squanda and another, fled the scene.
Lady Squanda surrendered herself and had her statement recorded.
Last year in August, Lady Squanda said she had turned over a new leaf, saying people should call her Madzimai Squanda as she was now attending the Apostolic sect church.
