The trial of Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church leader Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has revealed that the flamboyant pastor earns more than R500 000 per month.
Bushiri earns a massive R566 000 per month, to be exact, while his wife Mary Bushiri earns R221,000 a month from “entities”.
These stunning figures were revealed during a bail application by Bushiri, his wife Mary and Landiwe Ntlokwana at the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Wednesday.
The three are facing multiple charges which include theft, money laundering and fraud. Mary was arrested by the Hawks on Tuesday morning. Bushiri handed himself over to the authorities following his wife’s arrest. The Bushiris together with Ntlokwana were arrested for their alleged involvement in fraud and money laundering involving R102m.
After spending two nights in custody, Advocate Anneline van den Heever, who is representing the trio made a bail application on their behalf.

In their affidavits, the Bushiris highlighted that Shepherd Bushiri earns R566,000 a month while his wife earns R221,000 a month from “entities”. However, Bushiri was careful to state that he did not understand the charges brought against him as it was unclear what his involvement in the case was.
Ntlokwana who is a member of Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Gathering and is employed as a financial consultant pleaded for bail saying that she lived with her pensioner mother who, together with her siblings, depended on her.
All three will return to the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Friday for further argument in the bail application.
