Pearl Thusi Joins The "Not All Men Are Trash" Conversation

TV personality, actress and now singer have gone on a very candid Instagram Live to engage with her followers.

Mama Panther as she calls herself, touched on numerous topics all thanks to her followers who asked her various questions.

Touching on the Men Are Trash debacle, she joined the one side of people who defend men saying 'Not All Men Are Trash.' In a country like SA which has been dealing with inexplicable cases of Gender-Based Violence, many chose to ignore the fact that there are men who are caring and are against such violent senseless acts.

Pearl said that some men are actually 'pets' and that women should encourage their wonderful behaviour.

Many ZAlebs have engaged on the topic of GBV urging men to make a difference. Thuso Mbedu said, "I'm not a poet. I am not a musician and I am not a fine artist so I can not draw my pain." Said a devastated Thuso Mbedu. "I cannot sing my sorrows and I can not find the perfect words to best articulate the fear and the state of mind of the everyday woman in South Africa right now."

She then stated that from she's sitting she can only plead with those in power to do something about this as it is getting out of hand. "All I can do is urge the powers that be, that can actually make a difference to do something."

Rami Chuene on Twitter wrote, "Gender-Based Violence is NOT an event, NOT a tick in government calendar, NOT a campaign. 16 days of activism is a plea and reminder of the daily struggles that victims/survivors of #GBV face. Don’t make it about perpetrators, this is not the platform to ‘hear them out’. Do better,”

Pearl has however been a very vocal person when it comes to such societal issues such as these. Following President Ramaphosa’s national address, a few months ago, which deemed Gender-Based Violence as a national pandemic.

The actress used her platform to address the men that she knew, questioning them on what they are doing to end the abuse imposed on women.

Pearl initiated the trending hashtag, #MENMUSTHEAL, which suggest that South African men ought to deal with their deep-rooted issues, in order to fix their treatment towards women.

She stated, “Men need to heal. So much anger and violence. What are the men we know doing to end this scourge of darkness? #MENMUSTHEAL," she advised.
