Musician Kelly Khumalo is not at all impressed by The Crown Gospel Awards after she lost out big time.
Her hit single Esphambanweni features the legendary Gospel singer Hlengiwe Mhlaba from her album The Voice Of Africa was nominated at this year's award ceremony under the Best Gospel Song Award category.
The category was tough as her hit song competed against Tshwane Gospel Choir for their single Imvuselelo, Vusi Nova featuring Dumi Mkokstad for Yibanathi and Nyathi for Baba Ziveze. The winner was, of course, Baba Ziveze by Nyathi. His win made the musician fume with anger as she felt as though she was robbed of the award, implying that her song was way better than Nyathi's.
Her song Esphambanweni, is from her latest album The Voice Of Africa and is still is doing very well.
Prior to the official award ceremony, Kelly was hyped, advising her supporters to vote for her, "Bomakhelwane nivotile noma? (neighbours, did you vote for me?)" Her excitement was short-lived though, so she took to Twitter to vent.
"I know...I’m going to come across as a sore loser and, at this point in time, I actually don’t care. Can someone please balance me 'Esiphambanweni’ versus 'Baba Ziveze," she asked. "Let the followers speak, let the chat, the airplay, the YouTube views, speak. Kugangwa ngathi bazalwane. Sibalekele kuphi uma singabalekeli enkozweni ngoba enkozweni si expect-a iqiniso lodwa, ( We are being played. Where shall we run to if not the church, because at church we expect nothing but the truth," she added.
Kelly on Twitter even threw shade at Nyathi saying there is no way his song is better than hers, "Esphambanweni Vs Baba Ziveze? Someone please balance me? I would have been ok with Jehova uzoyigcina impilo yami or Bawo Yiba nathi bazalwane musani ukuganga ngathi (Christians do not play with us)"
"Oh ngiyabasaba abazalwane (Christians scare me)"
Her fans all seemed to agree with her that indeed she was robbed off her award and claiming that brown envelope was at play. It is understandable seeing how popular and chart-topping Esphambanweni is. It hit and surpassed two million views on YouTube and was amongst the top Gospel songs in the country.
"Esphambanweni being the no1 Gospel Song in the Country Lord thank you for life and your Continuous blessings," announced the Afro-pop singer.
Kelly's album is undeniably doing very well, hopefully, she can move past this.
