On Tuesday, many Zimbabweans woke up to the sad news that Soul Musaka who is popularly known by his stage name Soul Jah Love has died. He was 31.
Many Zimdancehall fans had come to love Chibaba as he was also known for his signature on stage but might have never known the other side of their favourite artist backstage.
Soul Jah Love’s mother died when he was just a baby. He then moved to stay with his father who also passed away in 2005.
He was forced into the streets after all of his family members refused to stay with him. He became a street kid also labelled as ‘Chigunduru’. In his songs, he referred to himself as Chigunduru because he was once a street kid.

He then built a house that was demolished by the city council. Following the demolition, Jah love released a song called Pazai indicating how heartbroken he was.
He released a song called “ndichavigwa ne gonzo’ following reports that he was infertile. In this song, he expressed how much he wanted his own child. He and Bounty Lisa, fellow Zimdancehall singer, got divorced. Bounty Lisa then entered another marriage and successfully conceived a child. However, Jah Love remained single and heartbroken as he claimed that he was still in love with Bounty Lisa.
Soul Jah Love also suffered from cancer and was diabetic since the age of 7.
In one of the interviews that Soul Jah Love had with KVG and Pathisani, the “Ndini uya uya” hit maker revealed some of his struggles that he had to go through, and yet he had to smile and appear on stage as if everything is ok.
It was in this interview that Soul Jah Love also revealed that some of the songs he sang are a reflection of the heartbreaks and struggles he went through.
