On Tuesday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa relaxed the lockdown regulations from level four to level two.
This saw curfew hours being reduced and business operating hours being increased among other things. However, bars, beer halls and nightclubs remain closed.
The issue of the reopening of bars and drinking spots seems to be highly contentious and resulted in mixed reactions. Some people questioned the logical and scientific basis for increasing the curfew while at the same time banning bars.

Some mocked the authorities’ stance over bars, saying that the situation is different on the ground. They claimed that a lot of bars are already operating and have been operating despite the lockdown regulations. Others, however, welcomed the ban and called on the authorities to keep it in place.
