Kelly Khumalo Snubs Zimbabwe’s Red Carpet Event In Solidarity With Somizi

South African songstress Kelly Khumalo who was set to grace the Garwe official reopening red carpet event snubbed the procession in solidarity with Somizi Mhlongo.

Kelly Khumalo had been roped in last minute to replace celebrity chef Somizi after calls for him to be blocked from getting into Zimbabwe had been made because of his sexual orientation.

Speaking after accepting the invitation, Kelly confirmed that she would be jetting into Zimbabwe and would attend the red carpet event.

I’m so excited to come back to Zimbabwe for the grand reopening of the Garwe Restaurant. Thank you so much to Mandi for hosting me and I can’t wait to meet all your patrons. See you guys on Thursday at 6 PM,” she said.

Kelly Khumalo who was scheduled to make an appearance at Garwe Restaurant at 6 pm made a last-minute cancellation of her appearance.

According to reports, Kelly is alleged to have walked away at the airport minutes before her 4 pm flight take off for Harare.

She is alleged to have accepted the invitation before learning that she had been drafted in as a replacement for her friend, Somizi. However, after learning that she was replacing her friend because he had been Barred due to his sexuality, she decided to cancel in solidarity with him.

The spokesperson of Garwe Restaraunt explained to guests who had attended the event why Kelly Khumalo had decided to cancel at the last minute.

“Unfortunately, Kelly can’t be with us tonight. She has opted to stand in solidarity with Somizi,” a spokesman for the eatery said.

Meanwhile, less than 24 hours after being barred from coming to Zimbabwe, Somizi bagged another better gig in Namibia.

“Yesterday after my Zimbabwean saga, here I am now. I got an invite immediately, deliberately, apparently, concurrently. I’m going to Namibia!”, he wrote.
