A Bethsaid church member in Chirumanzu apparently has a thing for punctuality, so passionate is he about punctuality that he decided to give two young ladies who had come to church late a thorough hiding so as to make sure they would never be late for church services again.
Edward Kakono, 31, who resides at Bethsaid church in Govere village, Chirumanzu, was hauled before Gweru Magistrate Judith Taruvinga on Thursday to answer a charge of assault.
The court heard that Kakono who hails from Govere village under Headman Govere Chirumanzu, beat up Farai Dzoro, aged 23, with a stick several times before attacking Yeukai Gororo by striking her several times all over her body with the same stick. The reason he beat them was that the two had come late to church and he wanted to instil discipline in them by way of the beatings.
A report was made to the police in Chirumanzu leading to Kakono’s arrest.
He was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment but three months were scrapped on condition he does not commit a similar offence in five years, the remaining four months were scrapped on condition he does performs 140 hours of unpaid work at Rupelile Primary School.
