Speaking to NewsDay, Tione Chipo Chako Arts founder and chairman Leonard Chidziva said the organisation was founded after realising that artists from this province were struggling to find their mark despite the talent there.
The province boasts of revered artists who hail from the place like Oliver Mtukudzi, dancehall artiste Freeman, sculptor Dominic Benhura and Picky Kasamba.
“Our province has seen some great names hogging the arts limelight, yet upcoming artists have struggled to make a breakthrough,” the 25-year-old Chidziva said.
Apart from Mtukudzi who is the patron, the organisation boasts of a wealth of experienced individuals who make up the leadership of the organisation.
It will consist of secretary-general Pauline Mugwadi, marketing manager and adviser Trevor Hall aka Ras Jabu, and Teererai Mugwadi, who is a board member.
Other members include treasurer Joe Nodza, who is the son of Wedzera Petroleum proprietor Eric Nodza, Blessed Chasi and Macdonald Kaocha.
Formed on May 29 this year, the organisation — that has since been recognised by the National Arts Council — would like to realise talents across all arts genres.
“Tione Chipo Chako will make sure that raw talent be realised in drama, poetry, music, films and visual arts and sculpting,” Chidziva said.
Meanwhile, preparations for the organisation’s first talent expo will take place early next month.
Dubbed Tione Chipo Chako (Show Me What You Got) Mashonaland Central Expo, it will run for a week with seminars, workshops and live performances having been lined up.
Pauline Mugwadi said they were working around the clock to ensure the inaugural event would be a huge success.
“Plans are underway to make the event has a good start and we call upon stakeholders to rally behind us,” she said.
