The province of Mashonaland Central possesses so much artistic talent that, however, lacks exposure at national level.
It is the province where artistes like Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi, dancehall musician Freeman and former Black Spirits band member, Picky Kasamba, hail from.
Even the late politicians Border Gezi and Elliot Manyika were also musicians of note.
As such, a youthful arts organisation called Tione Chipo Chako Arts has approached Tuku in view of launching the inaugural talent search show they have dubbed the Mash Central Talent Expo.
Tuku is now patron of the organisation which is duly registered with the Zimbabwe National Arts Council.
Founded by 25-year-old Leonard Chidziwa from Mvurwi, the organisation has already completed logistics and the expo will be held at Kimberly Reef Hotel (Bindura) at a yet to be announced date this September.
Chidziwa told The Zimbabwe Mail that they were inviting artiste from all genres to come for auditions on August 30 at Kimberly Reef Hotel in Bindura.
“All modalities have been done and we are inviting interested artistes from across Mash Central to come for auditions on August 30.
“Be it dance, music, theatre, poetry or any arts genre; we want to promote the talent that is in the province.
“It’s only a few who have breakthroughs at national level (and) that is why we came up with this platform to give them exposure.
“With Mdhara Tuku as a our patron, I see ourselves going far and many arts ambassadors will come out of this province,” said Chidziwa.
The organisation’s committee is comprised of musicians Trevor Hall, Tererai Mugwadi and Pauline Gundidza (Mafriq).
Chidziwa said negotiations were still underway to seal deals with several musicians that they wanted to perform at the expo with Pauline (Gundidza) and Mugwadi earmarked to perform.
