HARARE was on Tuesday awash with anti-President Robert Mugabe fliers which were being thrown out by a Zanu PF vehicle.
The fliers labelled ‘Vote of no confidence! Mugabe,’ were thrown around town by a Nissan Hard body open truck which was written Marondera province.
An eye witness told NewZimbabwe.com that hordes of such fliers where being dished out to people by three middle-aged men who were at around 12 noon.
“The car was driving along Robert Mugabe road from Fourth street, heading to the western side of town as if it was going to Zanu PF headquarters or freedom square the venue of the congress,” said the witness, “the guys were throwing out the small fliers everywhere and giving them to people at the intersections of the roads ”.
Marondera was the first province to be denounced by the first lady Grace Mugabe during her ‘Meet-the-People’ rallies three months ago when she was campaigning for the Women’s League secretary position in the ruling party.
Provincial chairperson Ray Kaukonde was ousted from the party for allegedly fanning factionalism in the province.
Kaukonde and several other senior party members are being accused of siding with Vice President Joice Mujuru in an alleged bid to assassinate President Robert Mugabe.
But some insiders said the fliers were being generated by the rival faction led by justice minister Emmerson Mnangagwa to further tarnish the embattled Mujuru.
“This is a ploy by those who are anti-Mujuru. This is not new as this has been happening over the past three months when Grace Mugabe entered into mainstream politics”.
Director of Zimbabwe Democracy Institute Pedzisai Ruhanya said what shocked was that ZRP officers were relaxed about the issue.
“That’s why I suggest it’s an inside job meant to bar tarnish the image of the other faction; they are implementing their strategy to bar Mujuru and her group from being part of the circus in town” said Ruhanya.
