Manchester United became the first English team to be eliminated from the Champions League on the same night that rival Manchester City won its Champions League group for the first time in club history.
With PSV beating CSKA Moscow, United needed to win its game to stay alive and avoid dropping to the Europa League — and a late own goal off a Marouane Fellaini header gave the team a chance. Fellaini headed a corner into the ground that Wolfsburg midfielder Josuha Guilavogui tried to clear over his own goal, but the ball looped over the last defender on the goal line to level the game at 2-2.

Wolfsburg responded just two minutes later. Brazilian defender Naldo, whoburned United on a set piece in the first half, stormed through the penalty area to hit a well-placed header into the far corner.
