Beyonce stirred up controversy and received backlash last month for her Super Bowl 50 halftime show performance, during which she paid homage to the Black Panthers and Black Lives Matter movement.
Now, the Federal Communications Commission has just released hundreds of angry emails it received from offended viewers. See some of the most interesting complaints below.
One irate person wrote, “This anti police, anti American, pro Black Panther display at a FAMILY TV SPORTS EVENT was totally disgusting and inappropriate!!” Another individual felt Beyonce’s halftime performance was so offensive that it ruined their entire Super Bowl party. “After that half time show i would like to know how i can get back the money i spent on the get together i had,” the person wrote.
That same person continued, “All that game did was promote hate on white people, law enforcement and America! How is that even legal to have on the air… sick and tired of how racist black people can be towards white people and now on national tv, JUST SICK.” Referencing how Beyonce pumped her fist in the air, in a manner similar to the Black Panthers, another person complained about the singer’s “racist hand [gestures].” Meanwhile, another viewer accused Beyonce’s politically-driven performance of “inciting violence against whites and police.”
There were also quite a few people upset about their children witnessing Beyonce’s routine. One viewer said the show was “in poor taste and was offensive,” adding, “There was nothing family oriented or uplifting.” As for the costumes worn by Beyonce and her backup dancers, one parent expressed, “Her attire was inappropriate for a family event (specifically the fishnet stockings and garter). Why is it that all of the women were scantily clad and the men were not? This was a horrible thing for my young daughter to see.”
Another upset person asked, “Has CBS no respect for all the families with younger children that watch football, let alone the biggest football game of the year?” And another viewer was so incensed, they vowed to boycott the Super Bowl for life. “The SB half time show was a disgrace and offensive,” the person began. “It was vulgar, distasteful, and a slap in the face [to] our military and law enforcement… I am through with the Super Bowl and it’s over paid, over hyped agenda. You can have it.”
