The Ministry of Environment Water and Climate has announced the suspension of trade in quail birds as an interim measure meant to pave way for the carrying out of a comprehensive study of production and selling of the birds, which have become a hit on the local market.
Environment Water And Climate Minister Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri says government acknowledges the benefits that quail farming and trade has generated, however the business has to be done in a sustainable manner and should be well regulated.
The proposed study is also set to ascertain the health benefits of the birds.

Statutory instrument 362 of 1990 compels any person who intends to keep or produce wildlife or fish for the purpose of selling to acquire a breeder’s license.
Quail farming has become fashionable across the country and a source of livelihood for many families.
