A local quail breeder, Mrs Manatsa Gomwe, who breeds over 200 quails at any given time says quails are a delicacy as they can treat over 30 ailments including insomnia, nervous system disorder and cancers.
A visit at a local restuarant in Harare revealed that many Zimbabweans are now health conscious as they a shunning non-organic foods in favour of highly nutritious and natural meet, cereals and vegetables.
Mrs Gomwe said they are overwhelmed by the demand of both quail eggs and meet and only last week they sold 600 birds and hundreds crates of eggs.

Research revealed that quail eggs have so many medicinal properties including strengthening the immune system, treatment of nervous diseases, fertility, gastro intestinal tract disorders, liver, renal, blood pressure and circulatory diseases, as well as metabolic diseases such as gout and diabetes.
In Japan, where the quails were first domesticated, children are required to take two quail eggs per day, which enhances their memory.
Both quail meat and eggs are now widely eaten by the health conscious Zimbabweans.
