Dancehall sensation Soul Jah Love and the Zanu PF Youth League are at peace and ready to continue working together.
This is despite the humiliation Jah Love suffered at Sakubva last Friday when he was ‘dressed down’ by Zanu PF National youth commissar, Innocent Hamandishe following chaotic scenes that ensued soon after an address by President Robert Mugabe. Although the main programme had not yet been concluded, some of the youth at the gathering assumed that the end of President Mugabe’s speech meant Soul Jah Love would now take to the stage.
And when a riddim associated with the dancehall star as played on the public address system, there was rapid movement of people as they sought to see Soul Jah Love in action. Meanwhile on the main stage Hamandishe was trying to conclude the programme by inviting youth league boss Kudzanayi Chipanga and Manicaland provincial chairman for their vote of thanks. Noticing the chaotic scenes at the other stage, Hamandishe used the PA system to call for people to settle down and allow the programme to conclude before performances by Soul Jah Love and others. However, it was the manner of Hamandishe’s address that triggered outrage on social media over the weekend with some accusing the youth league of abusing artistes.

Yesterday Soul Jah Love released a single titled ‘Ndiri Zvinhu’ based on the events at Sakubva. Many on social media took the title to mean the dancehall star was hitting back at Hamandishe. However, the parties met in the capital yesterday and ironed out misunderstandings arising from the Sakubva incident. The youth league told H-Metro last night that they have great respect for artistes, including Soul Jah Love, and they would continue to foster partnerships where opportunities arise.
“The incident at Sakubva is regrettable and was a result of wanting to follow protocol where people cannot be up and down while the President and leadership were still there. Performances were supposed to start once our leaders had left the venue in an orderly manner and when there was that chaos while the leaders were still there, there was need to restore order. Yes, it should have been done better and it is regrettable. But as the youth league we believe in fostering relations with our talented brothers and sisters including Soul Jah Love and to make sure that this matter was ironed out, there was a meeting today between the musician and Cde Hamandishe.
“They ironed out whatever differences might have arisen and both parties are satisfied that it is now water under the bridge and we move forward, looking forward to future partnerships with not just Soul Jah Love but many others like him. It is unfortunate there are some who will try and use this incident to suggest the youth league is abusive but we are the complete opposite. We respect our talented artistes and will continue to foster cordial relationships,” said the youth league in response to an H-Metro inquiry on the matter.
Soul Jah Love manager, Benjamin Nyandoro confirmed the meeting and added that the track ‘Ndiri Zvinhu’ was not hitting back at Hamandishe.
“Soul Jah Love is not hitting back. He is actually compounding Cde Hamandishe’s statement that hachisi chinhu by saying zvinhu. I can confirm that there is no bad blood between the two and on that day in Mutare, they talked and today (yesterday) we were together as well. This, however, shows that my artiste is creative because he came up with something that is generating debate on social media. He is creating conversation for people with most of his songs. Jah love’s position towards the party (Zanu PF) and the leadership is still the same. If you listened well as the song goes on, he is emphasizing that. He is even laughing about it and cannot go around explaining to people but it’s good for fans to have their say. What I want to make clear is that Soul Jah Loved is not hitting back with this song. He is just being creative and is capitalizing on this debate.
