Boris Bertolt, Francophone political activist and opinion leader writes out that the problem of Cameroon at this moment is President Paul Biya. In his write up, he emphasis on the fact that after 35 years of power, the President is about to leave a country is chaos.
Boris equally suggest 3 power point he thinks need to be done in the midst of the on going crisis. Read below and drop your thoughts:This Friday in front of his hotel in New York, the demonstrators chanted “Paul Biya must go”. This means that at the heart of the English-speaking problem is actually the longevity of Paul Biya in power. The ongoing protest is above all a manifestation of a rejection of its political governance. 35 years in power is too much !!!
When Paul Biya came to power in 1982, he inherited a country that had control of its borders but was also united. 35 years later, Paul Biya is close to leaving us in chaos. Not only is the country attacked at its borders, but it is also on the brink of secession. For Paul Biya actually controls only 7 out of 10 regions. The regions of the Northwest, South West and Far North are destabilized. More seriously, the rest of the country is not immune to other irredentist movements. This is the case in the East which is already attacked and constitutes a zone of withdrawal for certain grouped Central African armed forces. It is clear that the problem of Cameroon has become Paul Biya and its poor governance.
Given the gravity of the situation, there are three things left to do to avoid chaos:
1. ANNOUNCE A SCHEDULE OF ITS RETIREMENT OF POLITICAL AND PUBLIC LIFE. Paul Biya must clearly refrain from representing himself. After discussions, the state may possibly, as provided by the fundamental law that it has so much martyrized, guarantee it immunity and honors due to a head of state and his family.
2. CONVOCATION OF A DIALOGUE WITH ALL THE COMPONENTS OF THE NATION. It is time for Cameroonians to sit around a table and discuss about the future they want to give to this country. 35 years of power left a lot of injuries. The people are divided politically, ethnically and socially. The country is in conflict with its diaspora. It’s time to put everyone on the table and fix it.
3. COMMIT CONSTITUTIONAL REFORMS ON THE FORM OF THE STATE. We can no longer continue with the present form of the State. The centralized state benefited only a minority of enjoyers. It is time to hand over power to the people through their elected officials. Paul Biya can not continue to govern for the sole purpose of lasting and dying in power.
