A popular Ghanaian online tabloid Modern Ghana has reported that La Republique du Cameroun will be stripped of the right to host the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), following a damning and negative report over her readiness to host the competition.
This development according to the news agency came from former Egypt international goalkeeper and presently Egyptian Media personality, Ahmed Shobier.
According to Shinier, the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has received the report of an independent inspection team, which is unfavorable in relation to the progress of work done so far in the construction of new stadia.
The inspection report generally reavels that the state of preparedness by LRC to host the Africa football jamboree in less than 12 months is generally poor, thus the decision of the inspection team to recommend that LRC be stripped of the right to host the tournament.
Morocco is therefore highly tripped to replace LRC as the hosts of the competition, stated Mr. Shobier.
“African Cup of Nations 2019 Morocco: a decision issued by the CAF,” Shobier wrote on his Facebook page.
According to the report by Modern Ghana, Widespread speculation in Egypt media circles suggests that the inspection report recorded several failures that have damaged LRC’s chances, with the construction of the infrastructure branded as ‘woefully insufficient to specifications’.
From Shobeir’s post on his official Facebook page, it means that CAF has received adequate and convincing information to the fact that LRC is unable to organize the African competition and that the football body is awaiting the appropriate opportunity to announce the decision.
CAF had reportedly placed a lot of premium on the report by the independent inspection team before their eight-day inspection visit before deciding if preparations were deemed to be behind schedule.
CAF leader Ahmad Ahmad said then that it will put much weight behind the inspection team’s report.
“We have decided that it is no longer the CAF Executive Committee who will inspect the countries selected for the organization of the AFCON.
“It is now experts who will do it and CAF will decide based on their report,” Ahmad said.
CAF was forced to spring into to action to avoid any embarrassments after reports LRC’s preparations were behind schedule.
The 2019 African Cup of Nations is going to see an innovation, as it is going to be the first of its kind to witness the presence of 24 teams in the competition.
This news of the hosting right to be taking away from LRC is not surprising. Apart from LRC’s state of unpreparedness for the tournament, the political and revolutionary atmosphere especially in Ambazonia is not conducive as a welcoming ground for footballers across Africa. Ambazonians are committed to the restoration of their statehood and the price has already been paid. Consequently, it will be highly suicidal for any African football team to accept to Come and play footbaĺl in Ambazonia or LRC under the present political atmosphere.
