Kirsty Coventry’s Alleged Resignation Goes Viral On Social Media

A social media message circulated Thursday morning alleging that Zimbabwe’s Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry has resigned.

The message quoted her claiming there is a statement by her which says so. It read:

“Weldone Kirsty. An honest woman of integrity

“Breaking News. Kirsty Coventry, Zimbabwe Sports Minister and Multi Olympic Gold Silver and Bronze Swimming Medalist has resigned from her role as Sports Minister with immediate effect. She said in her statement she cant work with such a brutal government which has killed innocent civilians over her short period as Minister. “I dont want blood on my hands and earn blood money” she said. ”

Kirsty Coventry’s Alleged Resignation Goes Viral On Social Media

ZimEye telephoned Coventry several times between 8am and 12 noon Thursday. Although her voice was inaudible, ZimEye established that there was no such statement from or by her saying that she has resigned. A source told ZimEye that Coventry was however under public pressure to resign following the several shootings of civilians by the military since Monday this week.
