Unverified rumours once again sent Twitter into a frenzy; the mighty Kim Jong Un is dead?
As expected, his rivalry – American News sources were quick to jump train with unverified Japanese rumours, claiming the North Korea’s supreme leader was dead from Coronavirus, brain dead or resting peacefully in a “vegetative state”.
As much expected too was the propaganda-filled North Korean media downplaying netizens griped by confusion. Nothing has yet been verified, and no one, apart from the North Korean royal family, really knows the state of its Supreme leader.
A similar case has once been recorded in the Korean peninsula. Kim II Sung, Kim Jong Un’s grandfather was shot dead on November 16, 1986, only for news of his death to be confirmed 3 days later, same with his(sic) father Kim Jong-il, who died of a heart attack in 2010.
So, whether or not the North Korean leader is dead, brain dead, recovering or perfectly fine, it will remain unknown as it has been before until the North Korean state media officially address it on their time!

But what is known, probably fueling such speculations is, the supreme leader missed the country’s single-most auspicious occasion, “Day of the Sun” on April 15 2020. This is a not-to-miss birth anniversary of Kim II Sung, the eternal president and founder of the country.
The “Rocketman” as Trump would say for his obsession with the nukes, had been sick after undergoing a stent procedure earlier this month according to the US intelligence reports. The rumoured death is attributed to a botched operation by his surgeon whose hands were “shacking so badly”, the Chinese Communist Party sources claim.
It’s all whispers, that’s all we can confirm. But what we know for a fact are the country’s anticipated succession resolutions and possible disputes to erupt, if, for a fact, the supreme leader has indeed fallen.
Kim Jong-un became the supreme leader of North Korea in 2011, succeeding his father Kim Jong-il, who in turn, had taken over after his father Kim Sung’s death in 1994.
There’s an implicit consensus in North Korea that only a Kim from the same dynasty should run the country.
Ideally, it would have been Kim Jong Un’s brother. But there is none, he is said to have eliminated him from existence way back. Only his sister, Kim Yo Jong is alive.
And, if the succession is to favour the family genealogy, she will be the first female leader of the powerful nuclear state.
Kim Yo Jong has been more active in the regional politics lately, being the first from the royal family to visit South Korea for Winter games in 2018 and a huge supporter of his brother. His preferred successor.
However, experts warn, the chauvinistic Korean society is not yet ready for a female leader. Other sources claim failure to crown a female leader may make the matter so difficult that succession disputes may erupt.
In such a case, the transitional period may see Kim Jong Chul, the hidden brother to Kim Jong Un taking over the leadership. Nothing much is known about him.
All being said, the fact is – the world is currently reading everything from nothing as no hard information has yet been communicated. What we present are rumours and anticipations.
