Rolls Royce Safety Questioned Following Ginimbi Horror Car Crash!

Following the Horrific death of socialite Genius Kadungure and 3 others in a car accident, Zimbabweans have been left questioning the ‘premium’ safety features of Rolls Royce vehicles.

According to reports, Ginimbi ‘ s vehicle collided with a Honda Fit head-on before veering off the road, hitting a tree and bursting into flames.

On impact, the Rolls Royce engine detached from the vehicle with the wheels also flying off in different directions. For a car that costs half a million dollars, Social media users expected better and have been left with a lot of questions.

If a USD 500k vehicle can’t save you in an accident, what will?

The Honda Fit which Ginimbi crashed into, was an immediate write-off but the engine did not detach and the driver survived with non-fatal injuries. On average these vehicles cost less than USD4000.

Checking online The Rolls Royce Wraith which Ginimbi was driving boasts of advanced safety features as compared to the many Ex- Japanese vehicles which are driven in Zimbabwe, For this article, we are focusing on two features on the Rolls Royce Wraith which if working correctly could have saved Ginimbi’s life: We list them below:

Stability control: Stability control automatically senses when the vehicles handling limits have been exceeded and reduces engine power and/or applies select brakes to help prevent the driver from losing control of the vehicle.

Front Collision Warning and Advanced Emergency Braking: The system utilizes radar sensors situated on the front bumpers of the car to measure the distance of the Wraith from other objects in the front. If the system senses any danger, it alerts the driver of the same through aural and visual cues well ahead of time to take evasive measures.

If the driver fails to respond adequately, the system automatically engages the brakes to their maximum power to bring the car to an immediate halt.

From the two features above if working correctly, the car was supposed to sense the imminent collision and apply brakes accordingly, to reduce impact. However, this was not the case and Ginimbi met his untimely death. At the end of the day, no car is crash-proof(even with premium safety features) and drivers should exercise caution on the road and drive responsibly.

Below are some of the reactions from Zimbabweans on Twitter.

I am personally disappointed with @RoyceRollzHow can it burnt to that extent? This car cost close to half a million but it just failed. What then makes it super expensive? Did it go through collision tests? Did they design for safety? #RIPGINIMBI

Does a Rolls catch fire that easy? I mean this is the same company that manufactures Boeing plane engines, please someone educate me.

It’s so hard to believe that a high value car like this burns so quickly upon impact. No time to save even one person from the back seat?

Safety features in cars are made to minimise loss of life but they r not absolute. Trying to overtake 3 cars at once, super-fast driving, fatigue from all-night partying, liquor-then a head-on plus ramming into a tree. Even a Rolls Royce will fail under such circumstances bro

Any car in its normal condition will not catch fire – alter the conditions (collision) the unpredictable mixture of components, fuel and ignition sources will certainly cause a fire as petrol has a flashpoint of -16•C at the temperature if introduced to an ignition source FireFire

What’s your take on this debate, if expensive cars are worse than cheap cars in collisions, what’s the point of paying a premium?
