Following the death of Soul Jah Love on Tuesday, comedienne Mai Titi, real name Felistas Murata has finally revealed why Soul Jah Love took drugs amidst reports that he was a drug addict.
Speaking during one of her lives on Instagram, Mai Titi revealed how Soul Jah Love’s life was plagued with tragedy and tribulations from birth with his mother passing when he was a toddler with his twin brother dying at the young age of 15 and also losing his father in 2015.
She said because of the struggles and battles he had to fight, Soul Jah Love found solace in drugs and used them to ease and numb his pain.
Despite his musical prowess, Soul had a weakness for drugs. The drug abuse adversely affected his health and musical career. He missed many shows, lost sponsors, and promoters because of his drug abuse.
Troubled Zimdancehall artiste Soul Jah Love in 2019 opened up on his drug abuse problem saying that drugs had ruined his past. During the interview, he confessed that he had indulged in almost every drug he could lay his hands on.
So serious was his drug abuse that he had to seek the intervention of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries founding leader Prophet Walter Magaya after he had relapsed back into abusing drugs.

She claims that people did not know the real Soul Jah Love and the kind of struggles he went through on a daily basis but yet people chose to judge and condemn him. Mai Titi saluted Soul Jah Love for his perseverance, resilience, and how he fought many battles which a lot didn’t understand but still, he remained undefeated.
She said that Soul Jah Love will be remembered as an icon in Zimbabwe’s music industry as his music resonated and was an inspiration to many, especially to the ghetto youths as he showed them that you can become whoever you want to be in life if you use your talent wisely.
Mai Titi had a close relationship with Soul Jah love where they would visit each other sometimes and they also collaborated on a number of projects. On the music scene, they worked on a couple of tracks together like the song “Naka Dhula Dhaka”, “Boss Gaga Riddim”, and “Kuzvidira mavhu”. He also featured on some of her comedy skits.
Taking to Instagram, Mai Titi penned heartfelt condolence to Soul Jah Love saying;
“They never understood you wangu but I did. I was honoured to hang around you because I saw in you not only a dancehall king but an Inspiration.
Makuruwani, Ngwendeza, Chibaba, King of Dancehall. I salute you. REST EASY AND THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING, YOU INDEED LEFT FOOTPRINTS.”
