Do you like your job? Are you afraid that someone else may be hired in your place?Well, brace yourself for some real bad news. We do not mean to spoil your mood but this is real.
According to a new report from Bank of America Merill Lynch a robot revolution is actually going to wipe out 35 per cent of employment in the UK, and around 47 per cent in the US.Don’t panic, but robots are probably going to take all of our jobs |
‘There were 21million horses in the US in 1900. By 1960, there were just three million. The difference was that humans have cognitive skills – we could learn to do new things,’ Calum Chace, author of Surviving AI, told the Observer.
‘But that might not always be the case as machines get smarter and smarter.’
He adds that as AI becomes more advanced, the lucky few humans who are able to own AI will effectively control everything else.
‘There will be people who own the AI, and therefore own everything else – which means homo sapiens will be split into a handful of ‘gods’, and then the rest of us.’
But luckily, we might be okay – Carl Benedikt Frey, who co-authored the study ‘The Future of Employment: How susceptible are jobs to computerisation?’ in 2013, says that while some jobs die out, more service-based roles take their place.
‘The fastest-growing occupations in the past five years are all related to services,’ he said. ‘The two biggest are Zumba instructor and personal trainer.’
So as long as you can Zumba, you might be alright – until they build a Zumba robot, anyway.
