A VIDEO has gone viral in which ZB Financial Holdings group chief executive Ronald Mutandagayi is caught on video assaulting his estranged wife during a fight in which she allegedly poured hot water on him.
The video was allegedly shot by the couple’s 16-year-old daughter.
Barely a day after Mutandagayi issued a press statement, police officers have arrested the wife of his wife, Loveness.
Police sources said the estranged wife was taken away on Tuesday morning, and the Mutandagayis’ 16-year-old daughter confirmed the developments.
“Yes, my mum has been taken away by people who said they were cops,” said the girl, who allegedly filmed her parents fighting.
The video, which was shared by ZimEye, shows the business executive punching his wife who apparently is running away from him. She does not appear offensive in the shot shared online, see below.
The top banker has confirmed that indeed the assault incident took place, but insinuated that the video trending only shows part of the scuffle as he was also brutally attacked by the wife. As such, Mutandagayi alleges that the video must have been meant to push a certain narrative as it only circulated this week, some two months after the incident.
Zimbabwe yesterday joined the rest of the world commemorating International Women’s Day.
“The unfortunate circumstances surrounding the incident occurred on 2 January 2021 after three consecutive days of severe assault and harassment against my person,” Mutandagayi said in his statement.
“Further, it is regrettable that the video footage shows only a certain portion of the incident obviously meant to sell a certain narrative. Nonetheless, I am mindful of my right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty,” he added.

The couple, who are understood to be going through a divorce, are tearing apart over infidelity issues.
Meanwhile, the Mutandagayi daughter says she believes her dad bribed cops to take away her mother.
“My dad must have paid them, this police,” she said curtly, then hung up the phone.
Mutandagayi, a holder of Bachelor of Accountancy and Masters in Business Leadership (UNISA) degrees, is a Chartered Accountant by profession.
He did his articles with KPMG Chartered Accountants. He has previously worked for Willowvale Mazda Motor Industries as General Manager in 1992. He then joined Standard Chartered Bank Zimbabwe Limited in 1998 as Company Secretary and Head of Banking Services, a position he held until 2001 when he left to join NDH Holdings Limited as Chief Finance Officer. From there, he joined the ZB Group in February 2004 as Head of Finance and Risk and later, Managing Director of ZB Bank.
In 2015, Mutandagayi rose to become ZB Financial Holdings group CEO after the death of Elisha Nyikadzino Mushayakarara in February that year. He also sits on boards of various private and public corporations, including healthcare services provider Cimas.
